The History of Dalry Angling Association.

The club was formed in 1930. On 8th May, that year a meeting was called in Dalry Town Hall to consider a letter from the Hon Henry Mountjoy Upton of The Holm, Balmaclellan offering Moss Roddick and the River Ken from Dalry to Boat Knowe as fishing grounds, to the people of Dalry and Balmaclellan, recommending that an Association be formed, rules drawn up and the same submitted to him for approval. As a result, a Committee was formed the first Constitution and 100 Membership cards were printed.

At a meeting on 22nd December, 1930, the accounts showed £10 13/- credit balance, and it was agreed to purchase 250 two year old trout and release them in Moss Roddick. They cost £12 13/-. There is no record of how the shortfall was made up! In 1937, Mr. Forbes of Callendar granted the Association permission to fish Carsfad Dam, and it was stocked with 1,000 yearling brown trout on 5th April. In the same year, Mr. Upton was offered a rent of £5 per annum, to be increased if the Club's finances allowed. Link to full article
